The Testing Process

Doping Control Testing

Doping Control plays an essential role in protecting the rights of clean athletes. SLADA conducts testing in accordance with the World Anti-Doping Code and the International Standard for Testing and Investigations (ISTI).

1

Athlete Selection

Athletes can be selected for testing at any time and any place. Selection criteria may be random, based on finishing position, or targeted. Testing can occur In-Competition (at an event) or Out-of-Competition (at training, home, etc.).

2

Notification

A Doping Control Officer (DCO) or Chaperone will notify you of your selection. They will identify themselves and inform you of your rights and responsibilities. From this moment, you must remain in sight of the DCO/Chaperone at all times.

3

Reporting to the Station

You should report specifically to the Doping Control Station immediately. Delays may be granted for valid reasons (e.g., medal ceremony, media commitments, medical treatment), but you must remain accompanied.

4

Sample Collection

You will select a sealed collection vessel.
Urine: You will provide a minimum of 90ml of urine under direct observation by a DCO of the same gender.
Blood: If required, a qualified Blood Collection Officer (BCO) will draw a blood sample.

5

Splitting the Sample

You will divide your sample between the 'A' and 'B' bottles. First, pour into the B bottle (minimum 30ml), then fill the A bottle (minimum 60ml). Securely seal both bottles yourself.

6

Paperwork & Confirmation

The Doping Control Form (DCF) is completed. You must declare any medications or supplements taken in the last 7 days. Verify all laboratory code numbers match your bottles before signing.

7

Analysis & Results

Samples are sent to a WADA-accredited laboratory. The laboratory analyzes the 'A' sample. If an Adverse Analytical Finding (AAF) is reported, you will be notified and have the right to request the 'B' sample analysis.
